Book excerpt: "The aim of the National Burial Index (NBI) is to provide an index of burial entries recorded in English and Welsh parish, nonconformist, Roman Catholic, and cemetery registers but to exclude monumental inscriptions. Over 13 million records are presented (including 5.4 from the First Edition), extracted from 8,000 burial registers. Best coverage is the 19th century but the NBI contains burials from 1538 to modern times. Each entry provides surname, forename(s), date of burial, age (where given), the parish or cemetery where the event was recorded, and the family history society, group or individual that extracted the record."--Container insert.
