Book excerpt: This research note seeks to provide a preliminary assessment of current methods of screening candidates for entry into the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC), and to examine the potential utility of alternative selection approaches. While the criteria for entry into the SFQC are extensive, they focus more on administrative issues and general training experience than on the qualities needed for success in the course, or on an operational detachment. No specialized selection program or battery is currently being used.
