But two bank fail ures in the past two years and insurance companies willing to write surety bonds for any of the banks doing business attest the soundness of the banking business of the State. The state has deposits in one hundred nine banks. Six years ago it had deposits in four hundred twenty banks and nearly, all of these gave surety bonds for security. Of the one hundred nine, but twenty-three give surety bonds, the rest give collateral security prescribed by statute.
