At Rotterdam they embarked on the small sailing vessel "Billander Oliver" described in the loose fashion of those times as merely from South Carolina, Samuel Merchant, Master. ... The ship arrived at Philadelphia August 26th, 1735. Tradition has it that in the long journey, both parents died and were buried at sea. ... John Leyenberger, Lewis Leyenberger, Leyenberger, these two men and a boy, Peter, eventually ... [became] the progenenitors of all the American Linebergers, Linebargers and Lionbergers. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, California and elsewhere.
