Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A, Oxford Brookes University, language: English, abstract: Many companies fail to deal with their success when growing too fast. The effects of corporate growth in general and explosive growth in particular can endanger the existence of companies that are not prepared for it. This dissertation deals with issues of explosive growth and shows different growth strategies as well as some issues of change management that need to be considered. It is important to manage change successfully as it affects the employee’s performance. Communication and involvement of employees are considered to be very important. Furthermore some problems that are directly linked to explosive growth are shown. Problems can occur in terms of recruitment of appropriate staff on time or computer systems that do not grow with the company. Financial problems can occur when working capital is poorly managed. In order to answer the question in the research title, secondary and primary research have been undertaken. Secondary sources were mainly books but also various articles in journals, newspapers and on the internet. Primary research has been undertaken in order to get a better insight into issues of explosive growth. The methods used were semi-structured interviews and observation in four different companies. The findings underline the importance of change management as culture changed in all four companies, affecting behaviour and performance of employees. The recommendations at the end of this dissertation reflect the key issues for success that have been identified during this research. These include issues like a profitable core business and successful growth strategy as well as a clear focused management. A multigenerational staffing plan that goes with the product plan can help to find appropriate staff in time and leasing is an easy way to upgrade the whole computer system as soon as it becomes necessary in order to avoid problems.
