Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: This project is designed for the use of science teachers participating in one or two field trips surrounding the environmental theme of local watersheds. Orange County Coastkeeper, a non-profit organization, currently provides these experiences for high school students in their area, but these trips could also be run independently by the classroom teacher if assistance were unavailable. Each field trip unit contains lessons for teacher use before and after the field trip, information and suggestions for teacher use during the trip, as well as modifications to the trips themselves to reflect current research into best practices. All components guide students toward answering the essential question: “What actions can we take to best improve the quality of our watershed?” The addition of pre and post activity lessons and the modifications to the trips should serve to improve student outcomes.
