Book excerpt: The Energy & Environmental Research Center, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and stakeholders in the Red River of the North Basin teamed to form the Red River Water Management Consortium in 1996 to resolve water supply, flood protection, and water quality issues in the basin. The RRWMC program has established a partnership between its members -- representing industry, municipalities, and other interested entities -- and state and federal governments to address critical issues that may impact the water resources of the region. The overall goal of the program is to provide practical stakeholder-driven technical input for the development of long-term watershed management strategy focusing on water quantity and quality to ensure continued economic development of the area.
