Nearly two centuries later, remnants of the group that defended the Allied worlds and vanquished Apaht are brought together to investigate a troubling new enigma involving the field. Tales of Section Zero begins with vast stretches of space inexplicably falling dark, bereft of the Allen field and the abilities it enables. Worse yet, the regions seem to be expanding. On a lonely and desolate outpost called Discovery 11, they learn that the cause of the dead zones lies in the Alliance's distant past, in a long-forgotten search to create an all-seeing machine called an omniviewer.
