Book excerpt: "Solutions of the bioheat transfer equation are presented for several cases of unperfused and perfused tissue to simulate temperature profiles in tissue during photodynamic therapy or laser-induced hyperthermia. The results for the unperfused cases may, in principle, be compared to experimental data to determine values of certain key parameters of the bioheat transfer equation. These key parameters are the thermal diffusivity, the thermal conductivity and the optical and thermal penetration depths and are needed to simulate temperature profiles produced during the clinical application of photodynamic therapy."--Abstract.
