Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis is to study whether or no an alignment between strategy and structure affect positively the performance of family firms. In general, the alignment between the strategy and the structure in firms has a positive impact on the performance regarding the concept of strategic fit, but for family firms it is uncertain if this concept is applicable. Building in a sample of 18 family firms we can conclude that family firms will attain a strategic fit when pursuing a defender strategy; however the fact that an alignment between strategy and structure positively affect the performance is rarely significant.
