Book excerpt: The percentage of households in the United States with television sets continued to increase from May 1960 to January 1962. However, the changes since May 1961--a small overall increase and a number of relatively small increases and decreases for geographical and other parts of the total--are too small to be statistically significant. As a group, they are consistent with a slow upward trend. In January 1962, 90 percent of all households had one or more television sets in comparison with 88 percent in May 1960. The percentage with one set was 77 at both dates; the increases occurred in the group with two or more sets--from 11 percent in May 1960 to 13 percent in January 1962.
