Book excerpt: This article shed the light on risk taking as an essential element of entrepreneurial orientation and its effect on family firms. We discovered that risk taking is a distinctive element of entrepreneurial orientation in family firms. Furthermore, we recognized that family firms take less risk than do non-family firms when they are implementing entrepreneurial activities. In addition to that, risk taking was negatively affected by performance in these firms. These facts were proved by an examination of a sample of Lebanese firms that led us to many conclusions. Academic and practical matters of our results are supplied in the course of our research.
