Book excerpt: The nursing shortage is a national issue that has ignited an increasing demand to address the importance of preparing students to be successful on the initial National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). Nursing programs are charged by the Board of Nursing to prepare graduates to be successful on the initial NCLEX-RN writing. Nursing programs have implemented admission criteria and advancement policies, in conjunction with computerized testing, to ensure that this is a plausible mandate. The purpose of this proposed dissertation research is to identify predictors that will determine measures of success on the initial writing of the NCLEX-RN for graduates of Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) programs in central Alabama.
