In all but two pieces of correspondence, Sgt. Benedict is being held as a German prisoner of war in Stalag IV-B near Muhlberg, Germany. In his letters, Sgt. Benedict repeats the same message of being in good health and spirit. The camp was liberated by the Russians in January 1945, and Sgt. Benedict was sent to Moscow, Russia, after traveling through Poland. Most of the letters sent to Sgt. Benedict were from his parents, Carton and Zide Benedict, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The bulk of the letters sent to Sgt. Benedict were returned to the senders as he had been liberated by the time the mail had been processed.;Personal correspondence, military correspondence, photographs, and souvenirs from the service of Sergeant Calvin Benedict, who served with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and was a German prisoner of war from June 1944 to January 1945.
